Testosterone Levels – What’s Considered Normal, High or Low?

There are a ton of diet recommendations for boosting testosterone and it seems that everyone has different ideas about what ‘superfoods’ are best for boosting your levels of T.

But while it’s true that eating an avocado might raise your testosterone by X percentage, most of us are not realistically going to complete change our diet. We eat the things we enjoy changing those habits will probably seem like a lot of work for minimal benefit.

When making any change to your diet or lifestyle, the question you should always ask yourself is whether or not you can actually stick to it. What’s the point of having the perfect diet and most intense training regime if you give up after five days?

What you need to think about when trying to boost testosterone levels then is how you can do it easily.

One possible answer to that challenge is to use herbs and spices.

Add herbs and spices to your cooking and you can still eat whatever it is that you want to eat but you can boost the testosterone-raising qualities at the same time. Just keep some herbs and spices on your rack and add them when possible – simple!

So which herbs and spices will do the trick?

Turmeric

turmeric

Turmeric is a yellow, spicy powder that you often find in curry. It’s also super high in antioxidants which alone makes it good for testosterone and general performance. What’s more though, it also has high anti-estrogenic properties which have a very positive impact on testosterone levels.

And in studies, it has been found that even a small amount of curcumin (one of the active components in turmeric) can significantly raise testosterone levels.

gingerGinger

Ginger is another spice that’s great for testosterone levels and has been shown to be in countless animal studies. In studies it has raised T by as much as 17.7% and luteinizing hormone (which triggers testosterone production) by 43.2%. It also happens to be seriously good for you in a number of other ways.

garlicGarlic

Garlic is a natural antibiotic but more interesting to us is its ability to raise levels of nitric oxide. Most bodybuilders will know that high NO leads to better circulation of blood, oxygen and nutrients around the body and that this leads to heightened testosterone levels as well as to increase muscle growth and general health improvements across the board.

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper is often used to boost the metabolism for weight loss purposes. At the same time though, it can also help to increase testosterone in rats on low calorie diets.

nutmegNutmeg

If you’re not making something that you can add garlic or curry powders too, then you can always add nutmeg to your deserts instead – or even to your drinks. Nutmeg is traditionally used as an aphrodisiac, which normally implies some testosterone wizardry is at play. And according to at least one animal study, that appears to be the case.

basilBasil

Basil is another herb used as an aphrodisiac and has again been shown to boost testosterone levels in animals. Specifically, it has been tested on rabbits and boosted testosterone levels above reference levels. Hopefully, more research will be done on this one soon!

Coconut Oil/Unsalted Butter

Saturated fat is great for testosterone production because the body actually uses it to make the steroid hormones. Instead of cooking with low quality oil then, use organic, unsalted butter or coconut oil.
