For those of us who are serious about our training results, the idea of taking time off is completely appalling. This can make travel a little difficult, especially seeing as most hotels don’t come with their own squatting rack.
The good news? You can get a complete and highly effective workout in at any gym – just as long as you’re willing to get creative with how you’re going to train. Here are some tips that will make it that much easier.

You only need a small amount of space to train with your bodyweight and if you’re willing to work hard then you can get a very good workout this way.

The main key here is to use mechanical drop sets (altering the movement to go past failure), to use whole body movements (like burpees), to use one armed movements… basically to use anything you can in order to ensure it’s challenging enough and you’re getting a great burn.
The tricky part is going to be training the biceps and the lats. But there are solutions to this problem.
If you’re in a hotel, then all likelihood, you probably came with a bag of some kind. If you have a backpack or a travel bag, this can be used for all kinds of bicep and lat moves from curls to rows to shoulder presses.
A suitcase meanwhile is actually very good for working the chest. All you need to do is fill it heavy enough and then hold onto the sides with each hand.
Now you can perform reps as you normally would and can mix things up by going slow, by using explosive movements and by generally varying your technique to hit the slow and fast twitch muscle fibers.
Don’t have a bag? A simple solution is to use a bin instead. If there’s a metal bin in the bathroom, you can fill this with water in order to instantly gain a heavy weight.
You can then hold the edges of said bin and row it by pulling it up to your chest, or you can press it over head like a shoulder press. This can also be used for bench pressing with a narrow grip to hit the triceps.
Most hotels will have a towel in them. This is great for performing rows as long as you attach the end of the towel somewhere. Shut one end in a door for instance and then you can hang onto it and lean back to perform one-armed rows.
Towels can also be pulled apart in order to create tension. This then allows you to go through a range of motions for dynamic tension.
Of course you have another option too: which is to head outside and to start training at a nearby park, wood or beach. Just because you’re sleeping in your hotel room, that doesn’t mean you have to train there!
